Now for a Moment in History

I am loving the costumes for Paul Taylor's Company B.  In Andrew Sister's style, all of the girls wear high waisted pleated pants with loose curls.  I love the styles that women wore in the 50's, so darling..

Now for My Own Plug

This is fellow Corps de Ballet dancer Jessica Saund and I at the City Center Gala.  I was sporting my favorite little mink shawl inherited from my Grandmother (aka "mumi), an Amanda Uprichard dress and black ankle booties.

Project Runway Winner Leanne Marshall

I am so glad that Leanne Marshall won this season of Project Runway.  Her show at Bryant Park seemed to somehow combine a modern, natural aesthetic with an effortless ethereal quality.  Shown in the picture is her trademark scalloped-water inspired embellishments.  And there is absolutely zero guilt involved in wearing her line: all of her clothes were made with sustainable eco-friendly fabrics.

Although, I must say Karto Momolu put up a good fight.  Inspired by her African heritage, she managed to
design very wearable pieces.  I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her in the future.

Commes des Garcons for H&M

This post is for my coworker, Simone... In November, fans of Rel Kawakubo who don't want to shell out big bucks for his stuff will be pleased.  He is unveiling his line at H&M with his signature Japanese influence.  The pants (shown to the right above) were ubiquitous in Japan when I danced there this summer.  I actually convinced my guy friend to buy a pair.  However, sometimes I doubt that decision.  I waver between  thinking they are smart and novel, or thinking they look as though someone, pardon my french, crapped their pants.   Either way, you know I'll be there the day it opens.  What do you think?

Gossip Girl goes to Fashion Week

This week was Mrs. Waldorf's show in New York's fashion week.  I actually liked the green finale dress that Serena wore, but sometimes I find myself disappointed with the styling choices on the show.  The dress she wore in the show was very plausible for a couture fashion show.  However, I find that most of the Upper East Side debutants are a bit over-styled, looking more like a parody of the Manhattan elite rather than what they actually dress like.  i.e. the dress Serena wears to her mother's wedding.
On a general commentary of the plot line... I love that Serena is finally breaking out of her shell and acting like the bitch that she is.  Let's get real, she's not as nice as she seems.  I can't wait to see the cat fights ensue between Queen B and S.

Fall into the Gap (again)

For a few years now I haven't even set foot in the Gap.  For some reason, they seemed to have lost their niche.  However, recently they took on a new designer, Patrick Robinson, to head their team.  He previously worked for Perry Ellis and Armani, but he's seemed to have found his place at the Gap.  He's attempting to bring Gap back to the basics.  "Gap is supposed to make classic American clothes--the pea coat, the white shirt, the denim jean--cooler and more relevant every year.  It's not a brand that should play like H&M and Zara."  And he could not have done much better.  I've bought a few things from there for the fall myself.  Like the 90/10 cotton cashmere 3/4 sleeved shirts and cowl-necked cap sleeved wool sweater.  And with their whole Product Red line donating proceeds to women and children with aids in Africa it's practically guilt-free shopping!
