Magazine Street
Let me begin by apologizing for not posting recently. I was on a whirlwind family vacation. I started by flying home to Atlanta, then we all packed up and went to my birthplace, New Orleans. It had been two years since I'd been back, and it was as full of character as ever. One of my favorite streets to shop on and one that you should definitely stop by if you're visiting, is Magazine Street. Filled with quaint antique stores and galleries, it is definitely a unique place to shop.
While I can appreciate more contemporary and modern looking furniture, my heart always lies with antiques. The old homes lining St. Charles Avenue are filled with these Magazine St. treasures. I am intoxicated by the ornate crown moldings, old photographs, and the smell of vintage tufted leather sofas.

Introducing the first male jaunty's!
These three dapper boys were joining me at the Joyce Theatre in Chelsea to view Benjamin Millipied's new work. Nico Muhly (left), happens to be a musical prodigy. He created the score for Millipied's From Here on Out for ABT and currently created the entire score for Kate Winslet's new film, The Reader.

Norma Kamali
Today, Twyla Tharp held a showing of her new production in the works that I am currently involved in. Norma Kamali, fashion designer, was in attendance. Kamali and Twyla have had a long standing relationship, beginning with one of her iconic pieces, The Upper Room, which Kamali designed the costumes for. Last year I was lucky enough to be involved in another of her works, Rabbit and Rogue. Kamali's costumes for it were fantastic. My favorite of them all was this fantastic ruched 40s inspired leotard. Hopefully, she will be designing again for this new production!

Ray Ban Remasters Party
Ray Bans are one of those things that will be eternally cool. I remember pining for a pair since I was a young girl, and can recall the excitement of the purchase of my first pair. Last night, I went to the Ray Ban Remasters party with my friend Michelle and all of the glitterati followed. Upon walking in the entire cast of Gossip Girl was walking out, well almost (Ed Westwick, Blake Lively, Chase Crawford, and Penn Badgley). Sorry I didn't get to snap a good picture of them but the paparazzi were hovering around them. I will say that, in person the hands down sexiest one was definitely Ed Westwick.
OMFGG! Spotted: Chuck Bass leaving the Ray Ban party single.
I wonder if he fancies ballet dancers? hehe, XOXO Jaunty Jane

Topshop finally opening in the city
Topshop has released new photos of some of their new clothes for Topshop NYC. I for one, am ecstatic that its finally coming here, but I'll believe it when I see it. The date of its opening has been pushed back twice already. But with the economy this bad, all of the "recessionistas" need some frugal fashion!

New York City Ballet Gala vs. American Ballet Theatre Gala
As an American Ballet Theatre dancer myself, I find it interesting to see who attends our gala. Sarah Jessica Parker is a known fan of City Ballet, but as a fan of hers I wish she would support ABT along with them! I loved her Christophe Decarnin dress and choice of pairing it with the shimmery tights. It added the perfect festive touch. Also, LOVE that Alicia Keys sported a formal one-sy! To the right is a favorite designer of mine looking dashing, Peter Som.

Another Day in the Park
These last two pictures are a result of my lovely Sunday spent in Central Park with my two buds Matt Murphy and Daniel Mantei. I think this little girl is by far one of the cutest things I have ever seen. I want her coat!
It was one of those blissful Sundays: Brunch at Landmarc with the most pillowy "delumptious" (I made up this word just for it because I felt it was worthy of its own word) french toast I think I've ever set my mouth on; followed by a lovely walk in the park sprinkled with newly fallen fall foliage, capped off with a carousel ride and shake shack for dinner.

Halloween
This is one of my favorite halloween costumes I saw all evening, a particularly good depiction of the colorful artist Frida Kahlo. I've always been fascinated by her. I admire her fearlessness in being original. She had a flair for spectacle and knack for drama. And of course, no one ever sported a unibrow better than she.

Project Runway Winner Leanne Marshall
I am so glad that Leanne Marshall won this season of Project Runway. Her show at Bryant Park seemed to somehow combine a modern, natural aesthetic with an effortless ethereal quality. Shown in the picture is her trademark scalloped-water inspired embellishments. And there is absolutely zero guilt involved in wearing her line: all of her clothes were made with sustainable eco-friendly fabrics.
Although, I must say Karto Momolu put up a good fight. Inspired by her African heritage, she managed to
design very wearable pieces. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her in the future.

Commes des Garcons for H&M
This post is for my coworker, Simone... In November, fans of Rel Kawakubo who don't want to shell out big bucks for his stuff will be pleased. He is unveiling his line at H&M with his signature Japanese influence. The pants (shown to the right above) were ubiquitous in Japan when I danced there this summer. I actually convinced my guy friend to buy a pair. However, sometimes I doubt that decision. I waver between thinking they are smart and novel, or thinking they look as though someone, pardon my french, crapped their pants. Either way, you know I'll be there the day it opens. What do you think?

Gossip Girl goes to Fashion Week
This week was Mrs. Waldorf's show in New York's fashion week. I actually liked the green finale dress that Serena wore, but sometimes I find myself disappointed with the styling choices on the show. The dress she wore in the show was very plausible for a couture fashion show. However, I find that most of the Upper East Side debutants are a bit over-styled, looking more like a parody of the Manhattan elite rather than what they actually dress like. i.e. the dress Serena wears to her mother's wedding.
On a general commentary of the plot line... I love that Serena is finally breaking out of her shell and acting like the bitch that she is. Let's get real, she's not as nice as she seems. I can't wait to see the cat fights ensue between Queen B and S.
Fall into the Gap (again)
For a few years now I haven't even set foot in the Gap. For some reason, they seemed to have lost their niche. However, recently they took on a new designer, Patrick Robinson, to head their team. He previously worked for Perry Ellis and Armani, but he's seemed to have found his place at the Gap. He's attempting to bring Gap back to the basics. "Gap is supposed to make classic American clothes--the pea coat, the white shirt, the denim jean--cooler and more relevant every year. It's not a brand that should play like H&M and Zara." And he could not have done much better. I've bought a few things from there for the fall myself. Like the 90/10 cotton cashmere 3/4 sleeved shirts and cowl-necked cap sleeved wool sweater. And with their whole Product Red line donating proceeds to women and children with aids in Africa it's practically guilt-free shopping!

Veda
This is my new friend Lyndsey, the designer of the brand, Veda (a beautiful line of leather jackets sold at Otte and Intermix). Her bag is from her own label, shoes by chloe, and the shorts and shirts are vintage. I love the turquoise cuff accent, especially with all of the caramel browns in her outfit. Seen on the bench at Bonsignour, corner of Jane and Eighth Ave. Be sure to check out her stuff!

Michelle Obama
Without making a huge political statement considering this is a style blog, I just have to say that I love Michelle Obama's wardrobe choices. We haven't had an iconographic first lady since Jackie O and I think that it is high time for one. Michelle might just be one to fill those empty shoes.. Not only is she very fashion forward, but she also makes herself accessible to the average Joe (or Jane). The dress she wore on the view was only $129! It sold out almost instantly after her appearance. Talk about a trend setter!

White on white
In general, I stear clear of wearing white with off-white in the same ensemble. However, I think that she has pulled this look off wonderfully. The vest was quite beautiful in person (Her sister knits them in Argentina). I never would have paired white tights with that dress, but somehow it comes together.
